Watch Dogs (stylized as WATCH_DOGS) is an action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U in 2014. Set in a fictional version of Chicago, the plot follows hacker Aiden Pearce's quest for revenge after the murder of his niece. The game is played from a third-person perspective, and the world is navigated on foot or by vehicle. An online multiplayer mode allows up to eight players to participate in cooperative and competitive games.

In October 2012, hacker Aiden Pearce and his mentor and partner, Damien Breaks, carry out an electronic bank robbery at the luxurious Merlaut Hotel in Chicago and trigger a silent alarm triggered by another hacker. Banks tries to find the hacker, surrendering himself and Pearce. Fearing for his family, Pearce takes them to safety under the guise of a surprise trip to the country. On the way, the hitman Maurice Vega shoots a firearm that hits the car; Pearce's niece Lena falls into a coma and dies. 11 months later, Pearce tracks Vega down at a ballpark in Chicago's Parker Square district. After an unsuccessful questioning about Vega's contractor, he leaves Vega in the hands of his partner, arranger Jordi Chin.
